Sketching Group on Friday Mornings

Petunias, Watercolor Sketch, sketching group, Life Needs ArtI love looking at those really cool sketchbooks that some artists do. The ones with the ink drawings and bright splashes of watercolor. Usually, they’re scenes of exotic markets full of color, or dramatic cliffs along a coastline. Every time I see one of them, I think:

“I need to draw more.”

Yes, even as an abstract artist, I need to draw. I really believe that honing my drawing skills leads to better abstractions. When I’m having trouble with getting my larger artwork to come out as I’ve envisioned, I often sit down to draw something and discover that my skills are rusty. Sharpen up those skills, and even the abstractions flow better.

It’s some kind of hand-eye coordination. Or hand-idea coordination, perhaps.

Even though I know how important drawing is to my art, I don’t do it often enough.

So, selfishly, I would like to find some other folks to draw with, for fun and for accountability. If you have wanted to draw more, or like the idea of keeping sketches to remember a time or place, you are welcome to join me.

Friday mornings, 9:30AM
Open Door Coffee Company in Hudson

Experienced sketchers and complete novices are welcome. Bring a sketchbook and pencil or pen. Simple supplies are best.

There’s no fee, other than your coffee. If the weather is nice, we go outside to sketch.

And keep an eye on my Facebook page (www.facebook.com/lifeneedsart). I’ll post schedule or locations changes there.

Hope to see you on a Friday morning!

P.s. I’m not a watercolorist either, but I can live with that. 🙂
