“Red Sky at Morning” is a small (6×4 inch) collage made with printed images, handmade papers, purchased letters, and a page from a map.
I glued the map piece onto the backing board first, then adding the other pieces on top.
I love using maps in my collages, partly for all the connotations of a map (travel, comings and goings, finding the way, getting lost, unexplored places, you know) and for the printing (the spidery lines and pale colors).
