Small Packets, a Collage

Small Packets, collage, framed, life needs art“Small Packets” is a little collage that is packed with all kinds of wonderful things.  You can see bits of paper, tissue, magazine images, a coin wrapper, and vintage Top Value stamps I found in papers from my mom. The postage label came on a package I received by Royal Mail, hence the title of the piece.

Overlaying the colorful image is a piece of plastic, the kind that holds a 6-pack of soda bottles together. I took the plastic and ironed it flat, then attached it to the front of the collage.

(Yes, be careful if you iron plastic. Fumes and all that. Also, put freezer paper or something between it and the iron so they don’t stick. The plastic melts nicely into wonderful shapes.)

The collage is 8 x 10 inches on canvas.

See the detail photos for a closer look at the plastic piece, and to see how it looks hanging up.

Wow–love your collages! I’m so intimidated by all the ‘ephemera’ that goes into one but still hoping to get up the courage to give it a go some time!

Thanks, Dawn! Really, the ephemera is the best part of collages – if you put something down that you don’t like, just cover it over. (And the collage is usually better for it anyway!)
