Lyrical Landscape 6

I promise these won’t all be numbered!

Lyrical Landscape 6 takes a bit of a turn with warmer, almost autumn colors. It is smaller than #4 or #5 at 11×14 inches.

Sometimes (read: often) I find myself getting fussy, throwing more and more at the canvas until it doesn’t know who it is or what it’s saying.

The antidote to that is to simplify. Remove pieces, editing the art to its most essential elements.

That can be tough! I want it all, I want more, I want details. Maximalism! But all THAT can be too much.

Instead, I worked to simplify the shapes here – how many pieces are needed to convey a landscape? I aimed to reduce the number of pieces and each shape to the most essential, only the ones needed to convey the mood, feel, and appearance of a landscape.

Minimalist. It’s more of a haiku than a novel.

I think this one succeed.

11×14 inches.
Painted paper and wallpaper on canvas.

Part of the Lyrical Landscape series. Exhibited in The Warmth of Color.
